The phase 1 objective is to test the piezoelectric sensor and record noises in the field. At this phase it was discovered that the piezoelectric device has a less than 1.5 Volt output for hammering a surface it's in contact with. So, a pre-amp is required in order to detect coconut beetles landing on and eating coconut trees.
We need to determine the following:
- For power minimization: we need to model the noise the beetles make when on the tree.
- How many microphones are needed to cover the whole tree.
For discovery we need the following materials:
- Piezoelectric sensor
- 24 hour recorder
- 24 hour preamp - needs enclosure and power source
